Inclusion Philosophy
Our goal in addressing special needs - learning, physical, or emotional – is to enable children to learn side by side with their peers in ways that are meaningful and appropriate for each learner. In addition, all Jewish children with special needs can participate in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah process here. The Emily Cara Garbose Special Needs Program at Beth Or is a warm, nurturing and welcoming learning environment where Jewish education is made accessible to all children regardless of their special needs.
The school administration partners with parents to work with classroom teachers on an on-going basis to modify instructional materials and expectations, develop independent programs, or create small group or individual tutoring situations. With the continuing support of the Lassin Philanthropic Foundation, we have been able to provide our children with additional resources, adaptations, and accommodations which include special education teachers and aides in our Hebrew program and on Sunday mornings in our Judaic studies program.
We approach every child’s situation individually: Some children benefit from a self-contained classroom, while others benefit from partial or complete classroom participation, with or without support. While student needs varied, we do our best to allow every student to have the opportunity to participate fully in the educational, spiritual, and social activities at our religious School.
Please speak with our Director of Religious School, Aaron Nielsenshultz, 215-646-5806 x232, about your child's needs.
