Food Insecurity

Meals that Matter meets twice a month and is open to everyone. We cook in the main Beth Or kitchen, preparing meals for clients of KleinLife who are elderly, live independently and need meal assistance.

Corner of the Land Garden is our large vegetable garden. Each spring, Beth Or volunteers prep the garden and plant a variety of vegetables, then tend to the garden throughout the summer/fall growing seasons. Hundreds of pounds of produce are harvested each year and donated to Hope Gardens and Manna on Main Street. To help in the garden, please contact Bruce Dorsey or Mitch Diamond.

Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) volunteers meet monthly to pack and deliver food to seniors living in Northeast Philadelphia. We carpool from Beth Or at 9am or meet at the warehouse at 10am (10980 Dutton Road, Philadelphia) to being packing. Deliveries start at 11am and are completed by 1pm. To participate, contact Marlene Cohen or Bob Cohen

Annual High Holy Days Food Drive takes place prior to Rosh Hashanah. All congregants are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food in the donation bin located at the main entrance vestibule. The goods will be distributed to food banks and pantries in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Matanot L'evyonim Snack Bag Packing takes place close to Purim and fulfills the mitzvah of giving gifts to those in need. Our congregants of all ages gather during an Oneg to help pack over 2,500lbs of non-perishables which are donated to Manna on Main Street.

Contact Susy Krimker or Margie Chachkin for information about these programs.
