Youth Engagement

K - 6th Grade Youth Engagement

Beth Or offers a variety of fun, social programs for our children in Kindergarten through 6th grade!

We provide monthly programs for our elementary school aged students, typically after Judaics on Sunday mornings for K-2nd grade, and during Hebrew school on Sundays for 3rd-6th grade.

Everyone enrolled in Religious School is automatically a member of our youth engagement programs. All of our members are encouraged to bring Jewish friends from the area to events.

YOBO (Youth of Beth Or Teen Program)

7th - 12th Grade Youth Engagement

YOBO, our 7th - 12th grade education and engagement program, combines youth group, religious school, social functions and service projects.

Learning + Doing + Friends = YOBO!

What do students do?

Each month we offer:

  • Hands-on classes on fun Jewish topics or ideas, or a service project for volunteer hours
  • 1-3 core sessions for 10th grade (Confirmation)

When does it meet?

With the input of parents and teens, we've identified Sunday evenings from 5 - 7pm as the best time for teen activities (and food - we'll feed them every night, if health/safety guidelines and Pandemic conditions allow!). Sessions are scheduled about three times a month; students attend sessions as they are able to. There are two exceptions: Madrichim and Songleading Lab meet on Sunday mornings starting at 9:30am  (and/or Monday/Tuesday Hebrew school for Madrichim).

National Youth Engagement

8th – 12th grade students are encouraged to participate in regional youth programs with NFTY:

NFTY is the Union for Reform Judaism's national youth group. For additional information, visit NFTY PAR's website.

All 1st - 16th grade students who love to sing and make new friends are welcome to participate in our Junior Choir, led by Cantor Murley.

Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings at 9am before Religious School. The Jr. Choir perfors at the first Friday Family Shabbat services from September through June, as well as holiday and other special services during the year. They also have fun social events and put togeth the Purim Schpiel each year for Purim.

Multigenerational Choir

The Multigenerational Choir is another choir option, under the direction of Cantor Murley, for adults, teens and children who love to sing less formal music. They help lead three services during the year, with two rehearsals (usually on Sunday afternoons) leading up to each service.
