FEBRUARY'S A FINE TIME TO DO A MITZVAH

.....Help Us Feed Families In Transition

This February, Beth Or will once again support Family Promise Montco PA* (formerly Inter-Faith Housing Alliance) to fulfill the mitzvah of helping families who are experiencing homelessness and hunger, transition to independence and self-sufficiency.

We are excited to announce that we will partner with Bethlehem Baptist Church (BBC) to cover the Interfaith Hospitality Network Program. BBC will house the families throughout the month and Beth Or volunteers will provide daily meals and transportation. For many of us, this partnership between our two congregations represents a homecoming as the Spring House church purchased the property from our synagogue in 2006.

The spiritual leaders of both houses of worship, Reverend Charles Quann of BBC and our own Rabbi Greg Marx, are long-term friends and fellow members of the Wissahickon Faith Community Alliance (WFCA). This personal relationship makes their February homestay partnership all the more special.

Attention transportation volunteers: A Pennsylvania Department Transportation Bureau of Driver Licensing history, (website: https://apps.pa.egov.com/idr) must be provided by anyone who signs up to drive families to and from Bethlehem Baptist Church. Many of you have already provided this information to Inter-Faith Housing Alliance). If it has been longer than 3 years since you provided this record, please send your updated PA individual driver report to IFHA’s Community Resource Manager, Sue Zomberg, sue@i-fha.org.

We will once again us Care Calendar to sign up for volunteer slots:  https://www.carecalendar.org/   Code:  224429      Password:  1111

Please contact program chairs, Nancy Shaffer-End, theends4@msn.com, or Lynn Edelman, lynn.edelman2015@gmail.com, with any questions.

Thank you in advance for volunteering to participate in this important community mitzvah.

A note about the name change to Family Promise Montco, PA:

*Announcing Our New Name: Family Promise Montco PA
Dear Friends,

You might have already heard our big news—that starting this month, Inter-Faith Housing Alliance will be known as
Family Promise Montco PA. Family Promise is the leading national organization addressing family homelessness, and we have been a Family Promise affiliate for more than 30 years. With this name change, we are strengthening that relationship to benefit children and families experiencing homelessness and hunger.

You might also have some questions.

Why are we changing? Adopting the Family Promise name will allow us to take advantage of Family Promise’s national profile to better serve the families in our programs. It will open doors in fundraising and in advocating on behalf of the families we serve. It will allow us to draw on the expertise of hundreds of other Family Promise affiliates to make our programs as effective as possible.

What’s not changing? We remain committed to working with the community—with people of all faiths, ages, races, ethnicities, and origins—to ensure that children and families can access the food, shelter, and comprehensive support they need to become self-sufficient. “Interfaith” may no longer be part of our name, but it is and will always be vital to who we are. And to communicate this commitment, our logo will include the tagline you see above: “An Interfaith Response to Homelessness and Hunger.”

We’re so grateful for your support, for 30 years and counting! We hope you’ll continue to support us as we take this next step in our evolution, which will help us set more families on the path to independence.

Sincerely,

Wayne Carpenter
President, Board of Directors

Marsha Eichelberger
Executive Director
