Class Descriptions:

Session 1 | 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Reform Judaism

  • Instructor: Aaron Nielsenshultz
  • Congregation Beth Or belongs to the Union for Reform Judaism, yet Reform Judaism is not just one thing; in fact, there have been many reform movements throughout Jewish history. We’ll position the Reform Movement within this over-arching tradition, and we’ll explore its history and structure, and we’ll look at how it has changed over time.

The New Reality of Antisemitism: Confronting the Issues in Court, in Business, in Social Engagements and on the Street

  • Instructors: Rabbi Gregory Marx and Jonathan Segal, Esq.
  • The world is becoming increasingly precarious for Jews.  How should we respond, what is the cost to our community, spiritually and economically.  Joining Rabbi Marx is Jonathan Segal a partner at Duane Morris LLP in the Employment, Labor, Benefits and Immigration Practice Group. He devotes a great deal of his legal and private time to confronting hate in the workplace.

The Why of Jewish End of Life Rituals

  • Instructor: Rabbi David Levin
  • The Why of Jewish Rituals in Death & Mourning is intended to provide insight into the wisdom of the Jewish tradition to help us through this challenging, yet common experience. This is a program of Rabbi David Levin and the Jewish Relationships Initiative.

Session 2 | 8pm – 9pm

A Taste of Kabbalah

  • Instructor: Aaron Nielsenshultz
  • The study of kabbalah requires a tremendous amount of time, energy, and effort—way too much for one night! At the same time, we can gain a sense of what this mystical tradition brings to Judaism in one evening. We’ll explore a little history and a little theory in order to develop a small of sense of what Kabbalah is and isn’t and what it might mean for us in modern, progressive Jewish lives.

The Top Culturally Significant Jewish Moments of 2021 and Why They Matter

  • Instructor: Rabbi Gregory Marx
  • Not everything is so bleak. Join Rabbi Marx for an in depth tour through the seminal events of 2021 in the Jewish community. That’s right, we will look at William Shatner in space and the collapse of the Champlain towers condominium in Surfside, Florida.

Ethical Legacy Will

  • Instructor: Rabbi David Levin
  • The Ethical Legacy Will is more than a traditional will. It offers four distinct ways to craft and share your Ethical Legacy with your loved ones through recorded conversations.
