Shabbat Worship with Guest Speaker, Rev. Marek Zabriskie
Friday, March 25, 2022 • 22 Adar II 5782
7:30 PMJoin us for Shabbat Worship in the Gitlin Sanctuary with our special guest, Rev. Marek Zabriskie. His topic is "Who Would Want to Live in a Ruth-less World?"
We live in an increasingly divided and tribal society and world, where we are apt to absorb and filter only the news that we want to hear to reinforce our prejudices and worldviews. This leads us to segment ourselves and others rather than look to see each person as a precious child of God. Every society in history has tended to marginalize some segments of their population as lesser than others. We will look at the Book of Ruth -- one of the best-loved short stories from the Hebrew scriptures, which is a jewel of wisdom and truth -- for moral beauty and insights for how to live today.
If you are unable or prefer not to attend in person, please join us via Livestream or Facebook Live.

Marek grew up in Weston, Massachusetts and attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he studied philosophy and graduated magna cum laude. In 2011, he started a ministry called The Bible Challenge to help people read the entire Bible in a year. That same year, he created the Center for Biblical Studies to promote The Bible Challenge freely around the world. Since then, over one million people have participated in The Bible Challenge, making it the largest Bible ministry in the Episcopal Church. He has edited ten books in The Bible Challenge series and has written Doing the Bible Better: The Bible Challenge and the Episcopal Church.
He has also served as the President of the Friends of the Anglican Pilgrim Centre in Santiago de Compostela, Spain and has hiked over 1,600 miles across Spain on various Caminos leading to Santiago de Compostela – one of the world’s most famous pilgrimage sites. He has led pilgrimages to Israel and Spain. He has helped his churches raise over $15 million in capital campaigns and greatly strengthen their spiritual formation programs for all ages.
His wife, Mims, is an attorney with Morgan Lewis, and they are proud parents of three grown daughters. Christ Church Greenwich is committed to outstanding spiritual formation for all ages, eight extraordinary choirs, and to serving the poor and needy through a wide variety of ministries, both locally and as far away as Cuba and Tanzania.
Christ Church is the second largest Episcopal church between Boston and New York. It is renowned for having one of the finest music ministries in the Episcopal Church. Since Marek arrived, Christ Church has hosted extraordinary speakers such as the three-time Pulitzer-Prize winning author and New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, which drew an audience of over 900.
