Families In Crisis & Disaster Relief
Families In Crisis & Disaster Relief
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) provides opportunities for families to achieve self-sufficiency by offering community-based programs designed to bridge homelessness and independence. Every February, Beth Or houses a few families for the month. Members volunteer to provide meals, daily transportation, and chaperone overnight. To get involved, contact Nancy Shaffer-End or Lynn Edelman.
Hope Gardens is Inter-Faith Housing Alliance’s transitional housing program for low-income families with children. This program provides a secure home for families for up to 2 years while they gain the tools needed to become financially stable and self-sufficient. Beth Or donates fresh produce from our Corner of the Land Garden to their residents, shelter families and food cupboard during the summer and fall growing seasons, and non-perishable food throughout the year.
Disaster Relief is an important part of our Tikkun Olam. When a natural disaster strikes, Beth Or takes action by quickly raising and disbursing funds to vetted organizations, and/or organizing a team to help with recovery efforts.
Beth Or is designated as a Closed Point of Dispensing (POD) Location by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health in case of high emergency. If activated, we will be called upon to distribute medication and supplies to our Beth or families and employees. This program relies on many volunteers, with and without medical training, to help man the pod. Read more about how you can volunteer.
