Shabbat Worship honoring Sisterhood with Guest Speaker Lisa Hostein
Sisterhood is honored and participates in tonight's Shabbat service. Guest speaker is Lisa Hostein, Executive Editor of Hadassah Magazine. A dessert oneg follows the service.
About our Guest Speaker:
Lisa Hostein became the Executive Editor of Hadassah Magazine in November 2015, making her the first female journalist to lead the 100-plus year-old publication.
She has more than 30 years of experience in the field of Jewish journalism. Her prior positions included serving nearly 15 years as editor in chief of JTA, the global Jewish news agency based in New York. Following that, she served eight years as the executive editor of the Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia, where she also began her career as an intern during her senior year at Swarthmore College and continued as a reporter and news editor for another 10 years. She, in fact, shattered the glass ceilings at both JTA and the Jewish Exponent as well, as the first woman to helm both enterprises.
She has personally won numerous journalism awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Philadelphia Press Association and the American Jewish Press Association (AJPA). And she has led her staffs to dozens of awards as well, including at Hadassah Magazine.
The AJPA, where she has long served on the executive committee, has also honored her with its Award for Distinguished Service to Jewish Journalism.
Lisa is a longtime observer and chronicler of political, religious, social and demographic developments in American Jewish life. She has also traveled extensively around the world, writing about far-flung Jewish communities, including those in Tunisia, Turkey, Argentina, France, India, the former Yugoslavia, the south of France and Romania.
Lisa lives in Bala Cynwyd and is married with two sons.
