Religious School Information Packet 2010/2011

The Leonard & Madlyn Abramson Educational Center at
BETH OR RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

August, 2010

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Beth Or Religious School and to our temple! We are very happy that you and your children are here and we look forward to many years of learning and celebrating together.  On this website, you will find the following materials that make up our 2010-11 Religious School Fall Packet. Please click on the appropriate link to download the following materials:

1. Beth Or Parent Handbook – The handbook contains all pertinent information about the school year including calendar, schedules, special programs, curriculum guides and school policies. Please read it carefully and save it for future reference;

2. Religious School Calendar– with schedules for the year. Post them prominently so you know when school is in session, when we have special programs, vacation days etc.;

3. Admit Slip – You must bring your admit slip to school on the first Sunday! This will tell you what classroom(s) your child(ren) will be in for the year.  Students will not be admitted to class without their admit slip!

5. Opening Day Celebration & Meet the Teacher's Flyer – Come and get into the spirit of a new year of learning and celebrating! We'll introduce our theme of the year - Anu Echad - We Are One, Jews Around the World.  Click the link provided to learn more about this year's theme.  At the end of your session, meet your children's teachers and discover what they will be learning and doing this year,

6. Religious School Attendance Policy - We can't teach students who don't come to Religious School. Please help us make Jewish learning successful by sending your students to school on a regular basis;

7. Worship Service Attendance Policy - We encourage our families to come to at least six worship services over the course of the school year.  It's a great way to build community and for students to learn the prayers;

8. Parent Volunteer Form – Please be partners with us in your children's Jewish education! Please fill out this form and return it to the Religious School Office on the first day of school.  We're also looking for Classroom Parents, so please volunteer;

9. Youth Group Application Forms: We have Youth Groups for nearly all of our religious school kids! Be sure to fill out the forms and send or bring them back to the temple office.  This is a great way to build community, meet other kids and have fun!

10. Junior Choir Kickoff event: Join us for the Jr. Choir Kick Off event on September 11th.  Bring a checkbook to order your choir shirts.  Our Junior Choir is like a singing chavurah! Any student in grades 2-12 can participate;

11. Cantor Green’s Trope Class Form: Fill out the form and send or bring it back to Beth Or;

12. Eitz Chayyim Flyer – For post-B’nai Mitzvah students who are interested in Torah chanting;

13. Be sure to check out the Beth Or website, www.bethor.org  for all Beth Or activities!

14. TZEDAKAH Flyer! On your first day of Religious School, be sure to bring your decorated tzedakah envelope and your summer tzedakah cash. All of our summer tzedakah funds will be used to purchase books for children who can't afford to have their own books.  Also, don’t forget to bring your flip top soda pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House and your pennies for Millions to Remember!

Be sure to check back to the Beth Or website for information on all Beth Or activities.

Our children are our future; help us to teach them well.

B’Shalom,
Susan Edelstein, Director of Education
Sarah DeWoskin, Academy Coordinator
